The challenge
Students preparing for high-stakes Nigerian exams needed practice that matches the real thing: timed, computer-based, with questions they can trust and feedback that teaches. The platform also had to work for guests with no account, for schools tracking their students, and on the phones most students actually own.
What we built
- Practice and timed exam modes across 14 subjects, with instant scoring and worked explanations for every question.
- A verified question bank of 14,348 past questions, audited for answer accuracy.
- 1v1 Arena battles — students challenge each other live on the same questions.
- Leaderboards for individuals and schools, driven by an XP system that rewards performance.
- “Claret”, an AI study tutor — students spend XP on a hint, or on a full explanation grounded in the verified answer.
- Accounts with guest play — try it instantly, sign up to save progress; guest scores carry over on login.
- An admin back office with user management, content controls and AI-tutor analytics.
- Transactional email — welcome and password-reset flows on the platform's own domain.
How it runs
The front end is hand-built HTML, CSS and JavaScript served as a fast progressive web app; the back end is an Express and PostgreSQL API handling accounts, scoring, battles and the AI tutor. The whole product — design, front end, back end, question-bank tooling and day-to-day operation — is ours.
